Sometimes, I think that my friends don't understand how grateful I am to have them. I met each of them at very different times in life. As a 21-year-old woman, they've been with me for many of my firsts. They were always there, even without me having to ask. Days when I just wanted to be alone and to know that wasn't good for me mentally, they've never ceased to keep me in good spirits. They might not know EVERYTHING I endure, but we have an understanding that no matter the distance, how often we talk or see each other, the love and loyalty will always feel the same. I am so blessed that God has allowed us to experience each other.
I used to question my value to other people; if they saw me as important to them. And through my various friendships through the years, I've learned that there are parts of yourself that some people will need the most. All relationships and friendships are modeled differently but hold specific core values that can nourish the connection. Being a good person and showing genuine support will always be of value. It's more than just taking pictures and knowing how to have a good time. These are solid people!
My village taught me to prioritize myself, speak up when things aren't right, how to be a better friend and person. They've taught me that support comes in many different forms, staying up on the phone, praying together, celebrating our wins, finding the light in dark situations, and supporting our visions and ventures. It's a different kind of love that feels so warm.
Unfortunately, my parents didn't have the opportunity to give me sisters, but through life's experiences, I would count them. If I ever decide to marry a man, they will stand behind me!
